About This Course
Effective healthcare education begins with understanding how people learn and how teaching can support meaningful, lasting understanding. Educators must help learners connect new knowledge with existing experience, remain motivated and apply their learning to professional practice. This requires thoughtful choices about how lessons are planned, delivered and assessed. This course introduces healthcare educators to the foundations of adult learning, learner motivation and effective teaching. Participants will explore how prior knowledge, experience, readiness, confidence and the learning environment influence engagement and understanding. They will examine practical ways to encourage self-directed learning, provide constructive feedback and support learners with different needs. The course also explores how to select teaching approaches that suit the intended learning outcomes, subject matter and educational setting. Examples from lectures, small-group discussions, skills demonstrations, case-based learning and simulation will show how different methods can support knowledge development, practical competence and clinical reasoning. Through practical examples and reflective activities, participants will strengthen their ability to plan purposeful, inclusive learning experiences. By the end of the course, they will be better equipped to motivate adult learners, choose appropriate teaching strategies and evaluate whether their teaching supports understanding and application in healthcare practice.
