About This Course

Sociology provides nursing students with a broader understanding of how society, culture, relationships, and social conditions influence human behaviour, health, and illness. This course introduces key sociological concepts and examines social processes, adaptation, health and illness behaviours, family and community influences, and relationships within healthcare organizations. Students will consider how factors such as social class, culture, gender, education, and social support can affect health experiences and access to care. By applying sociological perspectives to nursing situations, learners will strengthen their ability to understand patients within their social environments and provide respectful, person-centred care across diverse populations.
