About This Course

Mental Health Nursing prepares students to understand and respond to the psychological, emotional, behavioural, and social needs of individuals experiencing mental health challenges. The course examines fundamental mental health concepts, classification and management of common mental disorders, therapeutic nursing interventions, community mental health services, and rehabilitation. Students will develop skills in mental health assessment, therapeutic communication, crisis recognition, patient safety, and supportive care. Attention is given to reducing stigma, protecting patients’ rights and dignity, involving families appropriately, and working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to promote recovery, independence, social functioning, and improved quality of life.
